Action, pose, spatters and light are all great. Have to agree that a darker bg (and thus more contrast) will benefit this image.

Very nice shot of this gull! Nice composition with the wing making a nice diagonal to the upper-right corner! It will give the finisching touch if you do Martijn's post-processing!

I like this shot, but:

If you open this in photoshop, pull the blacks down in levels, save it as, en upload it again, I like it more : )

Two seconds work, but a very nice result.
